Women's Hockey participates in Girls Play Hockey event

MEQUON, Wis. – Many of the student-athletes on Concordia University Wisconsin's women's hockey team learned how to play the game at free events, such as the one held on Sunday at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Youth girls in the greater Mequon area skated with members of CUW's women's hockey team and other volunteers for a few hours and learned about the game of hockey. The event was setup by the Ozaukee Youth Hockey Association to generate interest and excitement among girls aged 6-14. Participants learned how to skate, put on gear, received instruction during drills and had the chance to hear from CUW's student-athletes on how they advanced in the game of hockey. In all, nearly 40 girls took part in the learning clinic.

"This was a great opportunity for our CUW women's hockey student-athletes to give back to the community," head coach Jim Ingman said. "At one time they were young and learned the same way these girls did today. Any time we get a chance to build girls youth hockey in the community we are going to help in any way necessary. Promoting the game of hockey, especially with youth girls, in the region and nationally is extremely important."

Ingman, entering his sixth year as the Falcons women's hockey mentor, also serves as an assistant with the USA Hockey Player Development Camp. During the past he has taught some of the best 14-15 and 15-16 year-old girls in the nation on the national stage.
