Women’s Basketball knocked out of the NACC Tournament

MADISON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team was knocked out of the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals by the co-NACC North Division champions, Edgewood, on Thursday night. The Eagles took the game with a 61-51 victory.

"We are very thankful to compete this year," said head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones. "I would like to thank the administration for putting us in a position to play this season. I would especially like to thank our athletic trainer Nicole Smith and our Director of Athletic Training Angela Steffen for both of their hard work they have put into this year."

The Eagles took an early 7-3 lead on Thursday night.

The Falcons were able to take the lead with freshman Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scoring three points the old fashion way to give the Falcons an 8-7 lead.

Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) landed a jump shot as time expired in the first quarter to give the Falcons a 12-7 lead after the first quarter.

Edgewood opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead halfway through the quarter.

Emily Hafemann drained a three-point basket to give the Falcons the lead at 15-13.

Junior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) and senior Clara Chambers (Mineral point, Wis.) joined in on the three-point party on the two next series to give the Blue and White a 21-15 lead.

Szolyga downed another three-point basket to give the Falcons a 26-22 lead going into halftime.

The Eagles opened the third quarter on a 7-3 run to tie the game.

A jump shot from Camryn Szolyga gave the Falcons a 37-33 lead. The Eagles closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run to take the lead.

The Falcons were able to trim the deficit to three points on multiple occasions, but the Eagles defended their home court.

Clara Chambers led the flock with 18 points on the evening, while Emily Hafemann added 13 points.

Camryn Szolyga was a rebound short of a double-double performance with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Falcons finish the year with a record of 9-6.
