Edgewood Cruises Past Women’s Basketball

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team fell short in the Falcons' first game since January 29. Edgewood improved to 6-2 and to 5-0 in the NACC with the 79-58 victory that sent CUW to 4-3 and 2-2 in NACC play.

The Falcons hung with the Eagles early and took a 9-7 lead with 3:42 remaining in the first quarter on a three-point basket from senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.).  Edgewood would close the quarter on a 12-3 run to take the lead after 10 minutes.

The Eagles soared in the second quarter and outscored the Falcons, 23-13, including an 11-4 run to close the half. Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) scored six points for the Falcons in the second quarter on a pair of three-point baskets.

The Falcons held their own in the third quarter and scored 18 points in the third quarter, including seven-straight points from junior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.), including her first three-point basket of the season.

Edgewood held a 19-15 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Clara Chambers finished with a game-high 23 points. Camryn Szolyga and freshman Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Rach, Colo.) added 10 points in the loss, the 10 points is a career-high for Lassiter.

Sophomore Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) collected 10 rebounds on Wednesday night.

CUW looks to bounce back on Friday when they resume NACC play at Marian.
