Women’s Basketball extinguishes the Inferno

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team picked up a key conference victory with a 72-40 victory against Alverno to improve to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in the NACC.

After the Inferno took an early 3-0 lead, the Falcons responded with a 14-0 run and never looked back.

The Falcons took a 19-9 lead into the second quarter on Friday with senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) leading all scorers with eight points.

Sophomore Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored the first eight points of the second quarter for CUW.

CUW held a 36-17 lead into halftime.

The Falcons added onto the lead in the third quarter with a 20-8 scoring advantage. Smitsdorff secured another eight points in the third quarter.

The Blue and White were able to hold a 16-15 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Lindsey Smitsdorff led all scorers with 16 points and 11 rebounds to snag her third double-double of the season.

Clara Chambers checked in with 13 points and five steals.

Junior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) finished with 10 points in the victory.

Freshman Sophia Stanke (Prospect Heights, Ill.) scored her first collegiate basket on Friday night.

The Falcons held a 40-25 rebounding advantage on Friday.

CUW scored 46 points in the paint and scored 24 points off turnovers.

Concordia and Alverno will meet again on Saturday evening.
