Falcons secure a spot in the NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – It was a wild night inside the John Buuck Field House. The Concordia women's basketball team had lost to the Raiders last night 69-63 and were looking to bring the heat in tonight's second matchup.

This would be the final home match of the regular season for the Falcons.

The first points didn't get on the board until almost two minutes into the game with a layup from junior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.).

The Falcons would increase that lead to 5-0 with a three-point shot from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.). Hafemann would go on to make a free throw to increase the lead to 6-0 in favor of Concordia.

MSOE wouldn't get their first two points until the fourth minute of the first quarter.

The Blue and White would take the first quarter with a lead of 20-15.

In the second quarter, the MSOE would come back on fire to take the lead two minutes into the second quarter. They would continue to keep the Falcons at 20 points until there were two and a half minutes left in the game, where sophomore Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) would make a layup.

The Raiders would keep the lead going into halftime, 33-24.

Concordia would come back to put points up on the board, starting it off with two made free throws from Hafemann 30 seconds into the third.

The Falcons would hold MSOE to 33 points for two minutes into the third until the Raiders make a jump shot to increase their lead 35-28.

Sophomore Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) would make a layup with five minutes left in the third quarter to tie up the game 37-37.

The Falcons would take the lead 39-37 with a layup from senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) with four minutes left in the third.

Concordia would take the third quarter 49-40.

The Blue and White would be able to keep the lead in the fourth quarter, winning the game 69-59.

The women's basketball team tallied 41 rebounds, 30 of those being defensive rebounds. Senior Hannah Boettcher (Columbus, Wis.), Obry, and Chambers would all have six defensive rebounds. Freshman Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was the only player in the Falcons to have six offensive rebounds.

Hafemann would go 9-10 on the free throw line tonight.

The Falcons clinch a berth into the NACC tournament and look to play at Edgewood on Thursday, March 4.
