Wladyka sets goals record, Men's Lacrosse wins on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin honored its first-ever senior class on Saturday afternoon and Sam Wladyka put on a show with a program record 10 points and eight goals during a 22-0 shutout victory over Defiance College at Fitting Field.

Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored a program record eight goals, including a man-up and man-down tally, to go along with an assist for 10 total points to set a single game program record. He had five goals in the first half before scoring three goals in a 10 minute and 57 second span in the third period. It was a team effort, as the Falcons controlled the game front start to finish for their first shutout win of the season.

CUW's first senior class of Wladyka, Peter Morton (Albany, Ga.), Danny Dahms (Calgary, Alberta), Justin Krause (Hartland, Wis.), Kyle Burrell (Calgary, Alberta) and Zack Davis (LaPorte, Ind.) won their 40th game in a Falcon uniform.

The Falcons opened with seven goals in the first quarter and scored seven more in the second period for a insurmountable 14-0 halftime lead. They added four more in the third quarter and four markers in the final 15 minutes of play.

They finished with a 50-14 advantage in shots (33-2 on goal), led 49-25 in ground balls, won 19-of-26 faceoffs and cleared 17-of-19 attempts. CUW also forced 38 turnovers of which 25 were caused, both of which were season highs.

CUW had 15 players record at least a point and 11 marked at least one goal. Dahms recorded his fifth hat trick of the season, while Burrell picked up 14 ground balls, which is the second most ever in a game. He also caused a career-high six turnovers, which was one short of tying the single game record. Sophomore Tyson Roe (Duncan, British Columbia) had a career-high four points with two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Marino Best (Nanaimo, British Columbia) scored twice, while sophomore Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) ended with a career-best six ground balls. Freshman Corey Hendrickson (Grand Junction, Colo.) picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers, both were career bests. Junior David Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn.) picked up three ground balls.

Morton and juniors Matt Larsen (Gurnee, Ill.) and junior Christopher Grenz (Centennial, Colo.) combined for eight caused turnovers.

As a team, CUW finished with a single game program record 25 caused turnovers, which broke the previous record of 24 set on April 7, 2013 at home against Defiance College. The Falcons also had 17 assists, which was one short of tying the single game record.

CUW's 14 victories during the regular season is the most ever, but they have a chance of adding to that on Wednesday during a MLC Tournament semifinal matchup against Carthage College at 4 p.m. at Fitting Field.
