Winning streak continues for Men's Lacrosse on the road

CINCINNATI – Another game and another victory for Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday, as it routed the College of Mount St. Joseph, 22-5, during Midwest Lacrosse Conference play at Schueler Field.

The Falcons extended their program record winning streak to eight games and haven't felt the taste of defeat in 22 days now. It was also their first win in the state of Ohio in eight contests. With the win, CUW moves into a first place tie atop the MLC standings.

CUW (9-2, 4-0 MLC) led 5-0 after the first quarter, 11-1 at halftime and 15-3 following 45 minutes of action. They piled on seven more goals in the final period and had 14 different players record at least a point. The Falcons finished a perfect 19-of-19 on clear attempts, won 22-of-30 faceoffs, held a 33-15 advantage in ground balls and outshot the Lions 33-15 on goal.

Senior Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored a team-high four goals, while junior Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Min.) recorded a team-best six points (two goals, four assists). Senior Danny Dahms (Calgary, Alberta) had two goals and two assists, while sophomore Matt Garvey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) finished with a career-high four points, including three assists which is tied for 10th best in program history.

Sophomore Zachary Foster (Calgary, Alberta) ended with a career-high three points, including a career-best two goals, and sophomore Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) scored his first career goal at the end of the second quarter. Bundra also won 21-of-28 faceoffs and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls.

The Falcons opened the game with a 6-0 scoring run before surrendering an even-strength tally by the Lions midway through the second quarter. CUW then put together another 6-0 scoring spree to lead 12-1 less than two minutes into the third period.

Sophomore Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) picked up a career-high five ground balls to lead a strong defensive effort that limited CMSJ (1-11, 0-5 MLC) to just 23 shots the entire game.

CUW returns to action on Wednesday for a highly anticipated MLC road contest against Aurora University starting at 4 p.m. The Spartans will enter the game also at 4-0 in league play and were the MLC Tournament champions a season ago, and they also won a game in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
