Men's Lacrosse downs Alma, ties program record for longest winning streak

MEQUON, Wis. – By defeating Alma College 14-4 on Saturday at Fitting Field, Concordia University Wisconsin team tied a program-record for consecutive wins. The Falcons won their sixth straight, tying a mark set during the inaugural 2011 season.

Seniors Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Danny Dahms (Calgary, Alberta) each scored four goals to pace the Falcons offense. Dahms had three of his goals in the first quarter and added two assists in the contest for a game-high six points. Freshman Matt Garvey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) added a career-best four points (one goal, career-high three assists) for CUW.

CUW continued its strong play on man-up situations, finishing the game 7-for-8, which a program record for man-up markers. The Falcons scored four man-up goals in the first period, two coming from Dahms, and one each from Wladyka and freshman Colin Raley (Inverness, Ill.). Raley, Garvey and Dahms all added man-up goals in the third quarter. Dahms' three man-up goals tied the program record.

Sophomore Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.)) played a big factor for the Falcons, starting the offense by winning 18-of-21 in the faceoff circle. CUW also had a big advantage in groundballs, 40-18, led by Bundra's eight. Senior Kyle Burrell (Calgary, Alberta) added six groundball pickups.

After falling behind 1-0 with 9:26 to play, CUW rallied off six unanswered before the end of the first quarter. Four of those goals came in the last four minutes, three coming with a man-up advantage.

The Falcons extended their lead to 9-2 before halftime and put the game out of reach with a 4-0 scoring run in the third period, leading 13-2 after 45 minutes of play.

Three goalies split time for CUW on Saturday as sophomore Thomas Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn.) tallied seven saves, playing the first three quarters. Senior Zack Davis (LaPorte, Ind.) made three saves in 12:57, while freshman Matthew Erickson (Antioch, Ill.) played the final 2:03.

Sophomore Patrick Leen (Park Ridge, Ill.) recorded his first goal of the season for CUW, scoring with 5:49 remaining in the first half. CUW had 29 players see the field on Saturday and 10 players recorded a point.

The game ended with a total of 13 penalties for 14 minutes. Alma totaled eight infractions for 9:30, while CUW was whistled five times for a total of 4:30.

CUW (7-2, 3-0 MLC) will look to win a program-record seventh straight on Wednesday when it hosts Beloit College. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. with live stats and audio being available at CUWFalcons.com.
