Fahey named Men's Lacrosse interim head coach

MEQUON, Wis. – Michael Fahey has been named the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Lacrosse full-time interim head coach, which was announced by Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill Friday afternoon.

"I am pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Fahey as our interim Men's Lacrosse head coach," Barnhill said. "He was here the last two seasons as a graduate assistant and has intimate knowledge of CUW, the Midwest Lacrosse Conference and our roster."

During Fahey's two years as a graduate assistant the Falcons went 18-14, posting 9-7 records in both seasons. In his first year (2012), CUW advanced to the MLC Tournament after posting a 5-4 record in conference play. He will take over for Jeff Roberts, who stepped down in August after three seasons of leading the Falcons to take an assistant position with Marquette University.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity given to me by Dr. Barnhill and President Ferry," Fahey said. "I am excited to take over and continue the winning tradition started by coach Roberts."

Fahey came to CUW after a distinguished playing career. He spent two years at Onondaga Community College where he was a member of the 2007 NJCAA Lacrosse National Championship team. Following that he played at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.

Following his time as a graduate assistant at CUW, Fahey briefly was an assistant coach at Beloit College, a position he began August 1. However, coming back to CUW and the opportunity to be a head coach was one Fahey couldn't pass up.

"The time of this transition was outside of the typical hiring season for Lacrosse coaches so having Mike in the area and available was fortuitous," Barnhill said.

"I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling with recruiting young men of high character," Fahey said. "It is an honor being back at such an outstanding university and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish this season."
