Women’s Tennis Tramples Illinois Tech in the NACC Tournament
MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons once again have made it to the NACC Tournament Finals. The Blue and White clinched the date with Edgewood with a 5-1 victory over Illinois Tech in the NACC Tournament Semifinals. The victory soars CUW to 11-5 on the year.
Junior Jennifer Mies (Brookfield, Wis.) and freshman Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) threw the first punch on Friday with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Junior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) secured an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.
The junior duo of Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) landed the final blow to the Scarlet Hawks in doubles with a come-from-behind 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The Scarlet Hawks got on the scoreboard with a victory on court three.
Hot off winning a medal at the NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Ashley Samuta ran all over Natalie Hamill with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
Mallory Moen clinched the match for CUW with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Allyson Trang at No. 4 singles.
Ricki Budewitz had Morgan Colbert on the ropes on court one leading, 7-6 (5), 5-1.
Elizabeth Johnson was also on the doorstep of a victory over Ramya Nissankula at No. 6 singles at 7-5, 5-3.
Jennifer Mies had just forced a third set against Mouna Chahin at No. 5 singles at 7-5, 6-3.
The Falcons will seek revenge on Sunday morning against Edgewood in the NACC Tournament Finals for a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
