MEQUON, Wis. – The 2021 season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the NACC Semifinals. The No. 4 seed Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech upset the top-seeded Falcons with a 3-1 victory.
The Scarlet Hawks drew first blood in the third minute on a penalty kick.
The Red and Black held that lead into halftime and dug the Falcons into a large deficit with goals in the 57th and 71st minutes.
Junior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) found the back of the net in the 77th minute off a long pass from senior Mackenzie Larsen (Appleton, Wis.).
The Scarlet Hawks outshot the Falcons on Wednesday, 18-12. Junior Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) led CUW with four shots.
Senior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) had seven saves on the afternoon.
Illinois Tech will compete for the NACC Tournament title on Saturday at either MSOE or Dominican.
The Falcons finish the season with a 14-4-0 record and will compete again in the 2022 season.
