Falcons Down MSOE

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team posted another clean sheet on the season with a 2-0 victory over MSOE. The win keeps CUW atop the NACC standings with Dominican at 7-0-0 and snaps MSOE's 10 match winning streak.

"A great collective team win today," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "It was a tough battle throughout the game highlighted by our players in our backline.  It took 90 minutes of tremendous focus against a well-disciplined and organized opponent."

The Falcons struck first when junior Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) collected her rebound and put the ball in the back of the net.

Junior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) connected on a penalty kick in the 40th minute on an MSOE penalty in the box.

The CUW defense did a quality job of giving the Raiders clean chances and senior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) secured all 10 shots that she faced in the match.

The shutout is the first for the Falcons since a 2-0 victory at MSOE in 2015.

The Raiders came into the match with the fourth-ranked offense in NCAA Division III and the Falcons handed the Red and White their second shutout defeat of the season.

Karoline Haugland led the flock with four shots on Thursday.

Selena Esten continued her goal streak and has scored in every match that she has played in this season.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday against Alverno.
