VERONA, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team got back into the win column on Wednesday night at Edgewood. The Falcons picked up a 6-0 victory to improve to 11-3-0 on the year and remain in first place with Dominican at 10-1-0.

In the sixth minute, junior Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) beat the Edgewood keeper to the ball and sent the ball into the net off a pass from sophomore Madeleine Specht (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.).

70 seconds later, junior Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) spun around two defenders and threw the ball in the net off a cross from Isabel Downs.

In the 23rd minute, junior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) headed in a cross from Isabel Downs.

Karoline Haugland finished the first-half scoring in the 34th minute after a perfect pass from Isabel Downs as she danced past the Edgewood keeper and tapped the ball past the goal line.

Selena Esten drew first blood in the second half in the 66th minute on a tight-angled shot into the top of the cage.

Esten struck again in the 80th minute when she crashed the net off a cross from Isabel Downs.

The Falcons outshot the Eagles on Wednesday, 29-7.

Senior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) collected a save in her fifth shutout victory of the season.

Selena Esten led the match with 10 shots, with nine on goal.

The three assists for Downs is a career-high performance.

The Falcons are currently tied for first place with Dominican with 30 points and would be the No. 2 seed if the season ended today. MSOE, who entered the day in first place, was postponed due to lightning in the area.

CUW will celebrate senior day on Saturday afternoon against Concordia Chicago.
