Wise steps down as Men's Hockey head coach

MEQUON, Wis. – Jasen Wise, after eight years as the Concordia Wisconsin Men's Hockey head coach, the winnest in program history, has decided to step down.

"I want to thank President Ferry and Dr. Barnhill for all of their support over the past eight years and giving me the opportunity to be the head coach of the Men's Hockey program," Wise said. "I am very proud of what we accomplished here and I think we have left the program in a better place than when we started. I am proud of the people and players that we have and have had in this program over the past eight years. We achieved success on the ice and in the classroom with a team gpa of 3.4 or higher in successive years. It wasn't just about the wins, but also about doing things with integrity off the ice and that is something I think we did well."

A national search for the next Men's Hockey head coach will begin immediately.

"I would like to thank Jasen and his family for their dedication to CUW Hockey and our greater community," Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill said. "Our program is in a much better place now after Jasen had the time to build and improve upon what he found when he arrived. I wish Jasen and his family nothing but the best moving forward in their new pursuits."

Wise took over the program in 2012-13 and over eight years became the winnest coach in program history with 84 victories, including the winningest season in program history with 16 victories during the 2017-18 season. He coached the Falcons to five seasons with double-digit victories, with two seasons of 10-plus victories in the NCHA, which is considered the most difficult conference in the country. Concordia Wisconsin won 40 games from the 2015-16 season to the 2017-18 campaign.

He guided the program to four appearances in the NCHA's Harris Cup Playoffs and eight victories over nationally ranked teams, including a sweep of No. 1 St. Norbert in 2016-17. The Falcons were also ranked in the USCHO.com Top-15 Poll twice and received votes several times. Concordia Wisconsin rewrote the Men's Hockey record book as a team and individually as well.

During his tenure, he coached Braydon Barker who was an ACHA/CCM All-American and NCHA Freshman of the Year in 2017-18. Barker was also named to the All-NCHA Second Team that season. As well, Bo Didur was named to the All-NCHA Freshman Team. The Falcons have been highly successful in Wise's time as the Falcons mentor, with 77 student-athletes earning All-NCHA Academic Team honors.

Prior to his time at Concordia Wisconsin, Wise coached at Marian for eight seasons and guided the Sabres to numerous trips to the MCHA Tournament.
