No. 6 Story of the Year

Men's Hockey upsets No. 9 Lake Forest on senior night

The CUW senior class ended their careers with an upset victory in February. The Falcons upended the ninth-ranked Foresters 3-2 to finish with a winning record for the third time in program history at 12-11-2. The victory also tied the senior class as the winningest in program history. The Falcons also downed Lake Forest in a shootout to win the Boarder Battle Cup.

Freshman Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.) found the back of the net off passes from sophomore Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.).

The Foresters took the lead with the next two goals.

Junior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) tied the game with a goal in front of the net from passes from junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, B.C.).

Senior Jim Pearson (Ashton, Ont.) propelled the Falcons on a steal on the penalty kill and tallied a short-handed goal to secure the victory.

Sophomore Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) had 46 saves to earn the victory.

The Falcons killed off all five penalties on Saturday night.

The victory over the ninth-ranked Foresters was the second ranked victory of the year for CUW, with the first at UW-Stevens Point.

The two teams were sent to a shootout to determine the Boarder Battle Cup and senior Andrej Buchko (Peoria, Ill.) scored the lone goal in four rounds to bring the cup home for the second time in program history.

The CUW victory also spoiled the Foresters bid for the NCHA Regular Season title.

The CUW senior class of Andrej Buchko, Jake Switzer (Swansea, Ill.), Mac Ferner (Vernon, B.C.), Dante Hahn, Jim Pearson and Josh Adkins finish their careers with a program record 48 victories.
