Falcons open 2020 with a victory

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin began 2020 with a 3-1 victory over Finlandia on Friday evening, which included a pair of power-play goals and an empty netter.

The Falcons controlled the game in every facet, outshooting the Lions 43-35 and converting 2-of-6 power plays, while holding the visitors to 1-of-4 on extra man chances.

Junior Nick Guiney (Victoria, British Columbia) lit the lamp first after he circled around the zone and had a top-shelf shot off a pass from senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, British Columbia) to get past the Lions goalie for the first score of the game. This came after a Finlandia penalty.

The Falcons' special teams struck again in the second period off a long shot from junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alberta), with Hahn and junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, British Columbia) earning assists on the goal.

Both teams scored in the final period less than two minutes apart. The Lions scored late on a five-on-three power play with under two minutes to play before junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, British Columbia) finished the scoring with an empty-net goal with 53 seconds to play.

Concordia Wisconsin returns to the ice on Saturday to complete the weekend series against Finlandia at 4 pm.
