No love for CUW on Valentine’s Day at No. 9 Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The first-place Foresters stayed in the hunt for the NCHA title with a 6-3 victory over CUW on Friday. The Falcons move to 11-11-2 on the season and to 7-10-2 in the NCHA.

The Foresters struck first in the first period at the 10:57 mark.

Lake Forest added to the lead with a goal in the final minute of play in the first period.

The Red and Black scored again to open the second period.

Sophomore Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard with a shot into the upper corner of the net.

Junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) scored four minutes later to cut into the LFC lead. Senior Josh Adkins (Victoria, B.C.) and freshman Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) had the CUW assists.

The Foresters halted the CUW scoring streak in the final minute of the second period.

Freshman Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.) wasted no time to light the lamp in the third period with a goal 67 seconds in the period off passes from junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) and Luc Kreuser.

Lake Forester responded immediately with a power-play goal and closed the game with an empty-net goal.

Sophomore Erik Schuette (Olathe, Kan.) finished Friday with 24 saves.

Lake Forest will be competing for the NCHA Regular Season title on Saturday. The Foresters are tied with No. 8 Adrian atop of the NCHA standings. Adrian holds the tiebreaker over Lake Forest.

CUW will close the regular season on Saturday and will honor the six CUW seniors.
