Men’s Hockey soars in rout of Raiders

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – With the game tied at three, the Falcons broke open the game with seven minutes left in regulation to extend the unbeaten streak to four games. The Blue and White bounced the Raiders 6-3 on Friday to improve to 11-5-2 on the year and 7-4-2 in the NCHA. The victory gives CUW two key points in the NCHA South Division, where second place through fifth place is only separated by three points.

"We came out with a purpose and we were able to get up early," said head coach Jasen Wise. "Our power play helped us out a lot in the first half and other than a bad bounce, our penalty kill came in clutch. We knew what was on the line ad even though they tied it up, we stuck to our game and finished the right way. I think that speaks a lot about the character we have in the room."

Sophomore Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) started the scoring on a low shot in the first period off a pass from sophomore Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.).

Less than two minutes later, the Raiders leveled the game

The Falcons took advantage of the power pay at the 11:53 mark of the first period. Junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) snuck the puck past the right pad of the MSOE keeper after senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, B.C.) dished Pickup the puck.

The Blue and White struck against on the power play when junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) put away the puck on a shot that was right in front of the net. Dante Hahn and Cole Pickup were credited with the assists on the goal.

The Raiders did not fold on Friday and scored the next two goals of the game to tie the game.

Senior Josh Adkins (Victoria, B.C.) used some congestion in front of the net to put the Falcons up for good at the 13:52 mark of the third period with freshman Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) adding the assist.

Alex Way was able to scoop the puck over the MSOE goalie who bit on the pass from Dante Hahn at 16:53

Junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) put a bow on the game with an empty-net goal from across the rink. Sophomore Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) had the assist for the Falcons, becoming the fourth goalie in CUW program history to have an assist and the first since Nick Malvin on Jan. 27, 2018 against Lake Forest.

Besides tallying his first career assist, Didur had 35 saves to his name on Friday.

The CUW defense killed off seven penalties on Friday night.

The Falcons were able to maintain possession on Friday, winning 38 faceoffs.

The Raiders held a 38-34 shots advantage against CUW. Cole Pickup led the flock with seven shots on net.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday with the Falcons hosting at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
