Falcons Drop Season Opener

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW ACHA team fell in their 2023-24 season opener against the Hoosiers of Indiana University 6-3 Friday night inside the Ozaukee Ice Center. 

13 seconds into the game, the Falcons caught the Hoosiers off guard when freshman Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) found the back of the net off a pass from senior Ian Malcomson (Waukesha, Wis.) after the Falcons won the initial face-off. 

Concordia Wisconsin's defense would hold Indiana scoreless in the first period and enjoy the 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

The Hoosiers' offense would wake up in the second period and tie the game 1-1 at the 10-minute mark. Minutes later, with 7:48 remaining, Indiana found the back of the net again to take the 2-1 lead after two periods of play. The third and final goal of the second period snuck past the CUW goalkeeper to give Indiana the 3-1 lead after two periods of play.

The Hoosiers' scoring would continue in the early half of the third period to extend their lead to 5-1. With 11:35 left in the period, Chuck Emme scored his second goal of the night to cut into Indiana's lead. With 8:18 left in the game, the Hoosiers tacked on another goal to take the 6-2. With 3:10 left, Chuck Emme slipped a shot past the goaltender to complete the hat-trick in his first collegiate contest.

In the loss, senior goaltender Ian Robertson (Calgary, Alta.) recorded 40 saves. Meanwhile, senior John Swiatek led the Blue and White with 7 shots.

The Falcons will look to defend their home ice and get their revenge in game two of the weekend series on Saturday, with the puck drop slated for 5:30 p.m.
