ACHA Silences the Thunder

ANGOLA, Ind. – The CUW ACHA men's hockey team defeated the Thunder of Trine 4-2 to improve to 8-3-1 overall and 7-1 on the road.

The Falcons scored the lone goal of the first period as senior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) scored off a pass from fellow senior John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.).

The second period would see the Thunder tie it up at 1-1 with 16:44 left in the period, but CUW retook the lead nearly 10 minutes later as freshman Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) found the back of the net off of assists from senior Garrett Wildermann (Waukesha, Wis.) and senior Lucas Kresuer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).

With 1:25 remaining in the second period, the Falcons extended their lead on a shorthanded goal to make it 3-1 in their favor heading into the final period as freshman Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D.) found an open Lucas Kreuser, who ripped a shot past the goaltender.

Out of the break, Trenton Sherman scored his second goal of the night off of passes from freshman Michael Sobczak (Wood Dale, Ill.) and junior Brandon Ballweg (Woodbridge, Va.) to put CUW up 4-1.

Trine would net another goal with 7:51 remaining, but it was the Falcons who would secure the 4-2 victory to sweep Trine in the weekend series.

CUW will look to extend their winning streak to three on Thursday, Nov. 16th at Marian to take on the Sabres.
