ACHA Ties With Marquette

MEQUON, Wis. – Saturday night saw CUW's ACHA ice hockey team tie to Northern Collegiate Hockey League opponent Maquette University with a final score of 2-2, as Marquette won 1-0 in the overtime shootout. The Falcons record now stands at 4-2-1 on the season.

The Golden Eagles lit the lamp at the Ozaukee Ice Center and took the early 2-0 lead in the first period. But the Falcons remained composed despite the early deficit and scored their first goal of the night on the power play courtesy of freshman Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) off a pass from senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis).

Two-and-a-half minutes later, the Falcons put in the equalizer as senior Brandon Ballweg (Woodbridge, Va.) ripped one past the Marquette goaltender after receiving a crisp pass from fellow senior Garrett Wilderman, leveling the score, 2-2.

After an action-packed first period, neither team found the back of the net in the second, keeping the score tied heading into the third period.

The third period saw both squads have scoring opportunities, but neither could capitalize, pushing the game to overtime.

Neither team could slip one past the goaltender in the three-versus-three play, triggering a shootout.

After five rounds of shootouts, the Falcons were held scoreless as the Golden Eagles were able to score one.

In the loss, senior goaltender Vincent Falcone (Elgin, Ill.) recorded 32 saves.

The Falcons will return to the ice on Thursday, Oct. 26, when they travel to take on the Titans of UW-Oshkosh.
