CUW Women’s Track and Field Returns to Action

KENOSHA, Wis. – On Saturday, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's track and field team resumed competition at the Carthage Firebird First Invitational meet, securing sixth place with 34 points, while Elmhurst claimed the top spot with 159 points. 

The Falcons' distance squad showcased dominance in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, securing both first and second finishes. The relay team composed of freshman Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.), sophomore Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.), sophomore Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain), and sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) clinched first place with a time of 13:18.05. 

Meanwhile, the team made up of senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.), freshman Alex Svora (North Riverside, Ill.), sophomore Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), and senior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.), took second in the event with a time of 13:56.95.

In total, the Falcons collected 10 team points from the event.  

Meanwhile, the 4x400 relay saw CUW claim five team points with a time of 4:36.68 from a team consisting of a team of freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.), sophomore Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.), senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) and senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.). 

In the 800-meter dash, CUW had seven athletes finish in the top 20, while four finished in the top 10. Danielle Van Grinsven gave the Falcons two points with a time of 2:31.83 and an eighth-place finish, while Emma Ahrens finished behind Van Grinsven at ninth place for one team point. Meanwhile, Abby Poehlman, Ainara Sainz de Rosas, and freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) claimed the 10th, 11th, and 12th spots. 

Emma Eilertson's strong showing in the high jump event earned CUW four points, securing fourth place with a jump of 1.55 meters, while senior Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.) took eighth with a height of 1.40 meters.

In the triple jump, Amber Fietzer earned the Falcons three team points with her mark of 9.45 meters in the triple jump, as she took sixth place. 

Senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) led CUW in the long jump, leaping 4.75 meters, finishing in 11th place. Behind Moore was freshman Nina Alft (Kimberly, Wis.), who had a mark of 4.21 meters. 

As a team, CUW gained seven points in the pole vault as sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) took third, clearing a height of 2.95 meters, while sophomore Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) recorded a height of 2.80 meters and earned one point, finishing in eighth place.  

Four Falcons competed in the weight throw, as senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) recorded a distance of 9.83 meters, while sophomore Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) had a mark of 9.22 meters. 

Behind Maas and Ramaker was freshman Morgan Feuker (Mount Pleasant, Wis.), who had a distance of 8.87 meters, while Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.) finished with a distance of 8.30 meters.  

Senior Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.) led the flock in the shot put, recording a mark of 10.21 meters, good for 11th place. 

CUW will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20th, at the Lake Michigan Open, hosted by UW-Parkside, starting at 10:00 a.m.
