Women’s Track & Field Snags Third at NACC Championships

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The CUW women's track and field team finished third at the NACC Championships with 113.50 points. 

The Falcons soared in the one-mile run as freshman Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) secured CUW five team points with her fourth-place finish at 5:24.04. Meanwhile, senior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) took fifth at 5:25.81 for four team points. Sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) rounded out the scoring for the Blue and White in the event, taking eighth, recording a time of 5:31.36. 

The distance team would continue to rack up points in the 3,000-meter dash, as Anessa Yim put together another solid race to take fourth and capture five team points with a time of 10:44.71, as Emma Ahrens trailed her with a time of 10:48.82. Junior Alicia Kawa (Medford, Wis.) also earned Concordia one point, taking eighth at 10:56.38, nearly 20 seconds better than the next runner's. 

Sophomore Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) built off her fantastic first day, where she claimed gold in the long jump and claimed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.31 seconds, locking up 10 points for CUW. 

Also adding points to CUW's total was freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.), who took seventh place, registering a time of 9.74 seconds. 

Meanwhile, in the high jump, Eilertson would secure second with a mark of 1.59 meters, as Hielscher finished fifth with a time of 1.56 meters. The duo would account for 12 team points in that alone.  

The senior duo of Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) and Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) would combine for nine points in the 60-meter dash, as Zahorik took fourth in the event with a time of 8.06 seconds, while Moore captured fourth, registering a time of 8.13 seconds. 

Zahorik would also lead the Blue and White in the 200-meter dash, taking bronze with a time of 26.40 to secure six points for the Falcons. 

The Falcons also scratched four points in the 4x400-meter relay as the team comprised of sophomore Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.), freshman Hailey Foster (Pewaukee, Wis.), freshman Mikayla Becker (Plantation, Fla.) and Olivia Ebel took fourth place with a time of 4:29.14.

In the 800-meter dash, freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) took first in her heat and earned CUW three points with her sixth-place overall finish, recording a time of 2:29.32.

In the shot put, sophomore Kailey Ramaker took first in her flight at 9.62 meters, while Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.) led the flock with a throw of 10.69 meters. 

Sophomore Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) qualified for finals in the triple jump and led CUW with a mark of 10.07 meters in the finals.

The Falcons will take a break and compete next outdoors on April 6th at the Wisconsin Private College Championships.
