Women's Track & Field Snags Second at Beloit Relays

BELOIT, Wis. – The CUW women's track and field team returned to competition on Saturday at the Beloit Relays.

As a team, Concordia totaled 162 points for a second-place finish, while St. Norbert took first with 212 points. 

In the 10,000-meter run, the Falcons were able to pick up 18 points as senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) took first with a time of 43:48.77, while freshman Bailee Schlender (Brillion, Wis.) snagged second with a time of 45:17.47.

CUW continued to post points in the distance events as sophomore Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) took first with a time of 19:21.92. Behind Arvis was junior Alicia Kawa (Medford, Wis.) and senior Abigail Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) as they recorded times of 19:28.66 and 21:18.01. As a trio, they combined for 24 points. 

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase freshman Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) continued her successful freshman campaign as she took first with a total time of 11:43.62, giving CUW 10 team points. 

Two Falcons also scored in the 1500-meter run as sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) took first overall with a time of 5:00.35, while fellow sophomore Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) took seventh with a time of 5:11.40. Together, the sophomore duo combined for 12 points. 

Freshman Kylee Camble (Cudahy, Wis.) picked up two points in the 800-meter run as she recorded a time of 2:34.15, earning two team points at seventh place. 

Meanwhile, the 4x100-meter relay saw Concordia earn six points as the team comprised of junior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.), senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.), freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.), and senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) take third, as they compiled a time of 50.90.

Hielscher and Eilertson also performed well in the 100-meter hurdles, as Hielscher claimed the goal with a time of 15.17 seconds, and Eilertson snagged fourth along with five team points, completing the race with a time of 16.23 seconds. 

In the 400-meter hurdles was freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) who took third, while Emma Eilertson took fourth as they combined for 11 total points.

Meanwhile, Zahorik and Moore took their speed to the 100-meter dash, as Zahorik ran a 12.60, while Moore ran a 12.84, good for second and third respectively, totaling 12 team points. 

Furthermore, Jenna Zahorik and Sabrina Moore also combined for 11 points in the 200-meter dash, as Zahorik took second for a time of 26.29 seconds, while Moore finished in eighth with a time of 27.65. 

In the field events, sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) cleared a height of 3.36 meters for second place. 

Over in the jumps pit, Maya Hielscher leaped a distance of 1.53 meters, as she claimed third place while sophomore Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) and freshman Nina Alft (Kimberly, Wis.) split eighth place, combining for one point with a mark of 1.23 meters.

Sabrina Moore also had points in the long jump, leaping a distance of 4.97 meters, locking up four points for CUW. 

Hielscher also scored points in the javelin as she recorded a mark of 37.38 meters, while senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) threw a distance of 31.68 meters, as they took second and fifth place, combining for 12 points.  

The Falcons will have a two-day meet next week as they head south to Augustana for the Augustana Meet of Champions, starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
