Women's Track & Field Takes Third at Lake Michigan Open

KENOSHA, Wis. – The CUW women's track and field secured a commendable third-place finish at the Lake Michigan Open, amassing 77.5 points. Notably, Division II teams Northern Michigan and UW-Parkside claimed the second and first positions, respectively. 

In the fiercely contested 55-meter dash, senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) took fourth with a time of 7.62 seconds, positioning her fifth all-time for CUW women's track and field indoors. 

Senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), also made her mark in the 55-meter dash, securing seventh place with a time of 7.70 seconds, closely mirroring her performance from the previous week. 

Jenna Zahorik also led the flock in the 200-meter dash; she claimed first with a time of 27.29 seconds. Sabrina Moore also took fifth in the event, while sophomore Ema Williquette (Jackson, Wis.) and Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) also had top-10 finishes, with times of 30.01 and 30.02. 

In the 800-meter run, junior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) recorded a time of 3:06.02, earning eighth place.

The mile event witnessed four Falcon runners finish with a time of 5:30, including sophomore Ainara Sainz De Rozas (Madrid, Spain), sophomore Abigail Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.), sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) and senior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.).  

Freshman Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) earned the Falcons eight team points for her second-place finish in the 3000-meter, as she recorded a time of 10:42.83 - now the fifth-best time in Concordia women's track and field indoor record books.

Behind Ahrens was sophomore Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) with a time of 11:28.02, while senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) took ninth with a time of 11:47.13. Rounding out the group of Falcon runners was Abigail Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.), who finished with a time of 12:18.80. 

In the 55-meter hurdles, freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) claimed third place with a time of 8.90 seconds. Eilertson's time puts her at fourth all-time for CUW, earning the Falcons six team points. 

Meanwhile, the 4x400-meter relay saw the Falcons take fourth place as a team comprised of freshman Mikayla Becker (Plantation, Fla.), freshman Kylee Camble (Cudahy, Wis.), freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.), and Danielle Van Grinsven ran for a time of 4:43.47. 

The pole vault saw sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) secure fifth place with a mark of 3.05 meters, while freshman Kaitlyn Pankau (West Bend, Wis.) had a mark of 2.15 meters, good for eighth place. 

Emma Eilertston continued her successful day in the field events, as she took third with a mark of 1.57 meters. Once again, she entered the all-time record books, as her height placed her third all-time high in CUW's high jump history.

Senior Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.) took sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.35 meters.  

Maya Hielscher and Sabrina Moore combined for 14 points in the long jump, as Hielscher took second in the event and recorded a distance of 5.28 meters, while Moore finished in third and had a distance of 4.80 meters.  

The Falcons also earned four points in the triple jump as Amber Fietzer had a mark of 9.40 meters. 

CUW also did some damage in the throwing pit, as senior Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.) took second in the shot put with her best marking recording a distance of 10.96 meters.   

Freshman Morgan Feuker also earned the Falcons a point in the shot put, taking sixth place with a throw with a mark of 9.83 meters. 

Also in the shot put were freshman Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.), who had a mark of 9.43 meters, and senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.), with a distance of 8.84 meters, and sophomore Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) with 8.71-meter mark.

The weight throw also saw Morgan Huntley score points as she took third for six points with a mark of 12.56 meters. Jamie Maas also had a top-10 finish in the event, with a throw of 9.73 meters. 

From here, the Falcons will set their sights on UW-Whitewater when they compete at the Whitewater Squiq Converse Open and Multi meet next weekend.
