Women’s Hockey takes down Bethel

TOMAHAWK, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team traveled north to face Bethel University (Minn.) at a neutral site on Saturday afternoon, and the Falcons made the trip worthwhile with a 2-1 victory inside the Sara Park Activity Center.

CUW (6-4-0, 4-3-0 NCHA) earned a hard-fought victory behind goals from senior Alyssa Isaackson (Marshall, Minn.) and freshman Catie O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.), along with 29 saves from freshman goalie Kaitlyn Evans (Fairbanks, Alaska).

The Falcons got back in the win column after a closely-contested 1-0 loss to Lake Forest College on Tuesday, while also snapping Bethel's three-game win streak.

The Royals (4-4-2, 3-3-0 MIAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead nearly 13 minutes into the game when Kate Wahlin scored with the help of assists from Allison Linde and Sarah Kartak.

But the Falcons got back on level terms less than six minutes later, when Isaackson redirected a shot from the right circle off the stick of Sara Cole (Plymouth, Minn.) to tie the score at 1-1.

Early in the second period, O'Connor gave CUW a lead they would never give back, as the first-year forward finished low off assists from freshman Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) and senior Marie Melton (Prior Lake, Minn.).

Evans then secured the win by making 14 saves in the final period, capping off a week in which she also made 25 saves against Lake Forest on Tuesday.

The Falcons now head into the holiday break, and won't see game action again until a home game on January 6 against St. Catherine's University (Minn.).
