Christiansen becomes CUW's all-time assists leader

MEQUON, Wis. - After being shut out the night before, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team found the net twice on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-2 tie with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Just like in Friday's game, the Falcons owned the shots on goal category, this time outshooting the Blugolds by a 47-34 margin.

Seniors Alyssa Isaackson (Marshall, Minn.) and Hilary Christiansen (Eagan, Minn.) both contributed a goal and an assist, and Christiansen broke the all-time CUW record for career assists with her 51st career helper in the first period.

Freshman goaltender Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) also had a strong game between the pipes, making 32 saves to secure the point for the Falcons.

CUW (7-9-2, 5-7-1 NCHA) grabbed a 1-0 advantage midway through the first period, when Christiansen provided a centering feed for Isaackson, who finished low to notch her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Eau Claire (6-11-4, 5-8-3 NCHA) got back into the game in the second period, when Casey McMullen scored within a span of seven minutes to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead.

But with CUW on the power play early in the third period, Christiansen got the Falcons back on level terms when she stuffed the puck home off a goal mouth scramble.

The game went into a five-minute overtime period, but neither team was able to find the net. DeGeorge came up huge for the Falcons in the extra frame, however, preventing a goal off a Blugold breakaway chance with only seconds remaining.

CUW will have a week of practice before hitting the road next weekend, as they travel to take on UW-River Falls for a two-game weekend series.
