ST. PETER, Minn. - Gustavus Adolphus College, a perennial NCAA National qualifier, opened its 2011-12 season by skating past visiting Concordia Univeristy Wisconsin 7-1 Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in non-conference action.
The defending league champion Gusties (1-0-0) opened wth a 3-0 lead by the end of the opening period, outshooting the Falcons (1-1-0) 17-3 in the opening session and 54-8 for the entire game.
The lone Falcon goal was an unassisted tally by freshman Erin Grant (Allen Park, Mich.) at 4:19 of the second period. The score cut the deficit to 3-1, but GAC scored four unanswered the rest of the game, scoring twice on power plays.
CUW will take on St. Mary's College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in Winona, Minn.
