Women’s Hockey falls to No. 10 UW-Superior

MEQUON, Wis. - It came down to the wire, but the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team fell short against No. 10 University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday night, losing 2-1 at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Falcons (7-7-1, 5-5-0 NCHA) got 37 saves from freshman goalie Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) and drew the game level at 1-1 on a late goal from freshman Elizabeth Otto (Stillwater, Minn.).

But just over a minute after Otto's equalizer and with three minutes remaining in the game, Dani Schultz scored her second goal of the night to earn the victory for UW-Superior.

After a scoreless first period, the Yellow Jackets (8-5-2, 7-3-1 NCHA) got on the board with just under seven minutes remaining in the second.

Schultz, UW-Superior's leading scorer, fought through two Falcon defenders before snapping a shot past the blocker of DeGeorge at the top of the crease.

Both teams had chances in the final frame, but neither could find the net before Otto got CUW back on level terms.

Off a pass from fellow freshman Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.), Otto let rip from the top of the left-hand circle, before the puck took a deflection off of a Superior defender and made its way through the legs of Yellow Jacket goalie Shanley Peters.

But it only took 65 seconds for the visitors to regain their one-goal advantage, as Schultz redirected a centering feed from Alison Schrift to score what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Live video/play-by-play and live stats will be provided.
