Women’s Hockey frustrated by UW-Eau Claire

MEQUON, Wis. - Despite having more shots on net, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team fell short against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday night, losing 2-0 inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Falcons had 29 shots on goal compared to the Blugolds' 26, but two Eau Claire goals in a span of 17 seconds in the second period proved to be all the visitors would need to prevail.

CUW (7-9-1, 5-7-0 NCHA) were kept at bay by Blugolds goalie Morgan Pieper, who stopped everything the Falcons threw at her.

After a scoreless first period, Eau Claire (6-11-3, 5-8-2 NCHA) got back-to-back tallies early in the second period, Toni Simones scored on a wrap-around before Casey McMullen added to Eau Claire's lead just moments later.

Freshman goalie Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) had a strong game with 24 saves for CUW, but the Falcon offense couldn't connect on the other end.

The two teams will complete their two-game weekend series on Saturday afternoon, when they face off at 2 p.m. inside the OIC.
