Women’s Hockey victorious at Bradley Center

MILWAUKEE - Behind stellar goaltending from freshman Andrea Mizanskey (Palos Heights, Ill.), the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team beat Finlandia University 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee.

Mizanskey made 24 saves in the game, and CUW (4-2-0, 3-1-0 NCHA) posted its first shutout of the season while beating the Lions for the second time in as many days.

A night after scoring five goals, including three on the power play, the Falcons struggled to solve Finlandia goalie Ashley Pavlish for much of the game.

But just like Friday's game, the second period proved to be the turning point.

On Friday, the Falcons broke the game open with three goals in the second to take a commanding 4-1 lead en route to a 5-1 victory.

During the second frame on Saturday, CUW killed off two lengthy 5-on-3 power plays for Finlandia, and also scored the game's only goal.

Senior Hilary Christiansen (Eagan, Minn.) threw a shot at the net from the top of the left circle, and senior Alyssa Isaackson (Marshall, Minn.) redirected the puck up and over the right pad of Pavlish.

That was all Concordia would need to secure the victory, as Mizanskey made several more key stops down the stretch.

Next up for the Falcons is a road trip to Fond du Lac, Wis. to take on Marian University on Wednesday. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
