Falcons Softball Slid into a NACC Tournament Berth

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team post tremendous season losing only eight out of 39 games and dropping only two in the conference. 

CUW boasted a 15-game winning streak in the second half of the season that started with handing Aurora its first loss of the season and ended with a 3-1 victory at No. 17 MSOE.

Falcons softball never lost back-to-back games on their season losing only two games in the NACC Tournament.  The Falcons had ten double-digit games including one in the NACC Tournament Game Six. 

The Blue and White landed five All-NACC North Division selections.  Sophomores Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and Sydney Erdman (Geneva, Ill.), junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.), and senior Kelsey Bolton (Orangeville, Ill.) all claimed All-NACC selections for the first time in their careers.  Freshman Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) claimed the honor of NACC honorable mention for her addition of 20 hits with four doubles and two home runs. 

Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) lit the world on fire.  Not only did she claim All-NACC honors for the second time in her career, but she also pinned down NACC North Division Pitcher of the Year as well as an NFCA All-American Second Team.  Followell posted an earned run average of 0.44 with nine victories, four no-hitters, and one perfect game.  She was also named the CUW Female Athlete of the Year for her season performance. 

The Falcons also landed the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history as a CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team selection in Kelsey Bollon of Orangeville, Illinois. Bollon was also an NFCA All-Great Lakes Second Team honoree.

The Falcons posted three 12-run games in victories over the Inferno of Alverno as well as the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran.  The Falcons tallied 32 hits in the three games combined with five home runs.

The Falcons are ready to get back to action and look toward an NCAA Tournament berth.
