Softball Strikes Out the Sabres

MEQUON, Wis.- The Falcons had themselves a day, as they swept Marian on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of 5-0 and 6-0 shutout victories to improve to 16-4 and 6-0 in NACC play. The Falcons had a program-record 30 strikeouts in the doubleheader.

Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) did not need any offensive support on Tuesday after she threw a no-hitter performance and broke the school record with 18 strikeouts in the victory.

The Falcons struck first in the first inning. Senior Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) doubled down the right-field line to send senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill) across home plate.

The next few innings would be scoreless for the two teams until the bottom of the fourth where freshman Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) had a sacrifice fly out to right field to let sophomore Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) score.

Bollon would have some fun as she doubled to centerfield to send in sophomore Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.). The fifth inning would end with the Falcons leading 3-0.

The Blue and White were not done yet as Zappa would send sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) home in the sixth inning.

Wheat would get another RBI with Erdmann scoring.

Concordia was still hungry and came back for more in the second game of the series.

In the bottom of the second, junior Alyssa Vilkoski (Greenfield, Wis.) doubled to the gap in left-center, allowing sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) to score.

In the bottom of the third, Gaziano would double to right-center field, sending Taylor Kuske to third, Bollon home, and Wheat home.

Vilkoski reached first on an error in the bottom of the third, allowing Gaziano and Kuske to score.

The Falcons would finish the third inning with a lead of 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons squeezed one more run with Kelsey Bollon off a single by Utz.

Nicki Becker would get the win in the second game for the Falcons as she would pitch seven innings, sending 67 strikes down the pipe and 12 strikeouts. The 12 strikeouts would have tied a school record.

The Falcons will hit the road and head up to Fond Du Lac on Wednesday, April 14, for another series against Marian.
