Softball silences Lakeland in the NACC Tournament

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Falcons got off to a great start at the NACC North Division Tournament on Thursday evening. The No. 20 ranked softball team opened NACC Tournament play with a 10-0 victory over Lakeland.

The long ball helped the Falcons jump on the Muskies early. Junior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) smashed a home run down the left-field line to score senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.). The next batter up was sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and she too sent the ball flying out of the park.

In the second inning, Kelsey Bollon ripped a single up the middle to score sophomore Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) and sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.).

Claudia Utz then doubled down the left-field line to score Taylor Kuske and Kelsey Bollon.

The Falcons added three more runs in the fourth inning. Starting with a double into the gap in left-center field to score Kelsey Bollon and sophomore Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).

Senior Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) dropped a single to left field to close the scoring when she crossed Taylor Kuske safely across home plate.

Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) once again fried the fish in only five innings of action with seven strikeouts and only allowing two hits.

The heart of the Concordia lineup gave Lakeland issues with Kelsey Bollon, Taylor Kuske, Claudia Utz and Jenna Pozezinski all landing two hits, with Kuske also drawing a walk.

The Falcons will take on MSOE on Friday afternoon with a chance to advance to the NACC North Division Championship Game. CUW went 3-1 against the Raiders in the regular season.
