Softball downs Oshkosh in game two

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team rallied after a 3-1 loss in the first game of the day with a 6-1 victory to earn a split with Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday afternoon to improve to 9-3 on the year.

The Titans scored first in game one with an unearned run in the third inning.

Junior Kristen Fontana (Hickory Hills, Ill.) was the first one reach base for CUW with a single through the left side of the infield.

The Black and Gold added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to push the lead to 3-0.

Senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard with a home run over the left-field fence in the sixth inning.

Junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) recorded five strikeouts in the start.

Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) notched three strikeouts in relief.

Kelsey Bollon had two of Concordia's seven hits in game one.

The Falcons continued to swing for the fences in game two.

Sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) sent the ball screaming over the right-field fence in the third inning to start the scoring.

In the fourth inning, senior Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) scored Kelsey Bollon on a two-run blast to left field.

The Titans cut into the lead, but Gina Followell put ice on Oshkosh's comeback effort with two strikeouts in the sixth inning.

Utz struck again in the sixth inning with a double that scored junior Alyssa Vilkoski and Jenna Pozezinski.

Kristen Fontana closed the scoring with an infield single that scored Emily Walters from second base.

The Concordia defense closed the door on UWO and ended the day with an athletic catch from junior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) in foul territory.

Jenna Pozezinski, Claudia Utz and Kristen Fontana all had two hits in the victory.

Alyssa Vilkoski earned the victory in the circle with five strikeouts. Gina Followell earned the save and struck out three Titans.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to play on Saturday at home against Dominican.
