Gina Followell Named an All-American

MEQUON, Wis. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2021 NCAA Division III All-American Teams on Monday and Gina Followell earned Second Team All-American honors.

"It is an honor to be named an All-American," said Gina Followell. "I could not have accomplished any of this without my teammates supporting me from all angles of the game."

A junior from Romeoville, Illinois, Gina Followell is making her first appearance on an All-American Team.

On the year, she posted a 14-3 record and had 191 strikeouts to her name. She has also posted a 1.11 earned-run average. The Illinois native also had four no-hit performances in 2021 and had a perfect game.

Followell was also named the NACC North Division Pitcher of the Year and an All-NACC North Division selection in 2021. She was also an NFCA All-Great Lakes First Team selection in May.

She is the first player in program history to earn All-American honors.

"This is an amazing honor for Gina," said head coach Steve Crook. "She is very deserving of this honor. She worked incredibly hard this year on and off the field and it showed. This was a truly special year for Gina and the program. It is also a testament to our pitching staff, Alyssa Vilkoski, Nicki Becker and Gina all proved themselves in the circle and Claudia Utz also did a phenomenal job behind the plate with our pitchers. I am so happy for Gina and for the joy that this has brought to our program."

In NCAA Division III, Followell leads the nation with 11 shutouts, is third in WHIP at 0.63 and strikeouts per seven innings at 11.8, sixth in strikeouts, 10th in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 14.69 and 11th in hits allowed per seven innings at 3.58.
