Softball Brings Out the Brooms Against WLC

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team extended its winning streak to five games on Monday afternoon with a pair of victories over Wisconsin Lutheran. The Falcons tossed Wisconsin Lutheran to the tune of 7-0 and 5-1 to improve to 14-4 on the year and 4-0 in NACC play.

The Falcons started the scoring in the second inning off the bat of sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) with a single through the left side of the infield that scored junior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.). Gaziano then scored on a fielding error.

Senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) was able to send home sophomore Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The Falcons kicked down the door in the fifth inning with three runs.

Kelsey Bollon started the scoring with a single to score Sydney Erdmann. Taylor Kuske then scored freshman Madison Wheat (Cowerta Okla.) on a ball in the infield. Gabbi Gaziano closed the scoring in game one with a double into the gap to score Emily Walters and Kelsey Bollon.

The Warriors could not figure out junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) on Monday and only recorded two hits and had 12 strikeouts.

Sydney Erdmann secured three of Concordia's 11 hits in game one.

The Falcons swooped down on the Warriors early in game two.

Gabbi Gaziano scored Taylor Kuske on a single to right field to open the scoring.

Junior Alyssa Vilkoski (Greenfield, Wis.) then sent a shot to center field to score Gaziano.

Sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of junior Kristen Fontana (Hickory Hills, Ill.).

Sydney Erdmann closed the scoring in the second inning with a shot that sent home Alyssa Vilkoski.

The lone Wisconsin Lutheran run of the day came in the third inning off a home run.

Taylor Kuske scored the final run of the day when she scored Kelsey Bollon in the fifth inning.

The Falcons stole seven bases on Monday afternoon. Sydney Erdmann and Taylor Kuske stole two bases in the Monday sweep.

Claudia Utz kept the Concordia bases safe from the visitors and did not allow the Warriors to steal a base and threw out the only would-be runner.

Junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) earned her seventh victory of the year in the circle and only allowed two hits and sat down four batters.

Alyssa Vilkoski had two strikeouts in two innings of work.

Kelsey Bollon led game two with two hits.

The Falcons return home on Saturday against Marian.
