Softball trades shutouts with Marian, splits NACC twinbill

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – For the second straight day the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team shut an opponent out in game one of a doubleheader, only to follow that by being shut out in game two. On Tuesday, the Falcons split with Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference twinbill, winning game one 6-0 before falling 1-0.

Sophomore Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) tossed her second straight shutout in the opening victory for the Falcons. Perkins scattered six hits and struck out four, while not allowing a walk in the complete-game victory.

Heather Dorn of Marian returned the favor in game two by throwing a complete-game three-hitter. Dorn struck out just one batter but was efficient in needing just 75 pitches. The Sabres only run of the game two win came on a leadoff home run courtesy of Lydia Cloud.

The CUW offense recorded 11 hits in the winning effort, including two each from freshman Alexis Holsten (Oshkosh, Wis.) and senior Alyssa Robison (Roselle, Ill.) Freshman Jennifer Reicher (Kewaskum, Wis.) drove in a team-best two runs, both coming on a two-RBI single in the second inning. The Falcons plated five in the second and added one in the fifth on an RBI single from freshman Carly Sobrilsky (Brookfield, Wis.).

Adding to the offensive production in game one was senior Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) as she led off the five-run second with a triple. Robison finished the game with a double and also scored two runs. Senior Katie Landherr (Waukesha, Wis.), Holsten and Robison all had RBI singles in the second inning.

Senior Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) took the loss in game two despite turning in a strong effort in the circle. Schuh allowed just four hits in six innings of work and struck out five batters.

CUW (16-16, 10-8 NACC) will host Dominican University Friday for a NACC twinbill. The games will be the final two home contests for the Falcons this season, as Senior and Parents Day are scheduled at the CUW Softball Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
