Softball rebounds for game two win, splits with Edgewood in NACC twinbill

VERONA, Wis. – Junior Felicia Meyer turned in a complete game effort in game two of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Edgewood College as the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team salvaged a split on Saturday. The Falcons dropped the opener 4-3 in 10 innings before winning game two, 5-2.
In the opener CUW rallied for a run in the top of the seventh to tie the score at 2-2 and force extra innings. An RBI walk by senior Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth but Edgewood wouldn't go away, answering with a run of its own in the bottom half, tying the score at 3-3. The Eagles would win it in the bottom of the tenth on an RBI double from Dylan Bahrke.
The Falcons rebounded in game two thanks to a strong effort from Meyer (Lewiston, Minn.) and a four-run second inning. Freshman Alexis Holsten (Oshkosh, Wis.) had the big hit of the inning, a two-RBI double which made the score 4-0 in favor of the Falcons.
CUW would push its lead to 5-0 in the top of fifth, while Edgewood would score its two runs in the bottom of the same frame, making the final 5-2.
Meyer scattered five hits and walked just one in earning her first conference win of the season. She struck out three and was efficient in finishing the game with just 83 pitches.
Sophomore Marisa Hahn (Northville, Mich.) and freshman Carly Sobrilsky (Brookfield, Wis.) paced the CUW offense with two hits in game two. The Falcons were also aided by three EC errors as just one of the five runs scored was earned.
In the opening game Hahn, Giesseman and junior Katie Landherr (Waukesha, Wis.) each collected two hits for CUW. Hahn and Giesseman each tallied RBIs in the contest as well.
Defense hurt the Falcons in the opener as they committed four errors making just one of the Eagles runs earned. Sophomore Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) pitched eight innings and allowed zero earned runs, getting a no decision in the process. Senior Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) finished the game and was the pitcher of record for CUW.
The Falcons will return to action tomorrow when they host Rockford University in a NACC doubleheader at the CUW Softball Field. First pitch of game one is set for noon and live stats and audio will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
