Softball downs UW-River Falls, drops game to SNC to open spring trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team defeated UW-River Falls by a 8-3 score to salvage a split on the opening day of its annual spring break trip. The Falcons dropped the opener against St. Norbert College, 6-5.

The Falcons used a four-run first inning in the second game to down UWRF. Freshman catcher Carly Sobrilsky (Brookfield, Wis.), who finished the game with three hits and three RBIs, had a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first to give the Falcons a two-run edge.

CUW (3-3) would extend its lead to 8-2 after five innings as Sobrilsky belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. She was a part of a deadly middle of the order for CUW that included seniors Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Alyssa Robison (Roselle, Ill.). The three combined for seven RBIs from the 4-5-6 spots in the batting order. Freshman Jennifer Reicher (Kewaskum, Wis.) had three hits from the No. 3 spots and scored twice.

Junior pitcher Felicia Meyer (Lewiston, Minn.) gained the win by throwing three innings and allowing two runs. Senior Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) made her season debut and was impressive in throwing three shutout innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out two.

The opening game saw St. Norbert scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for the 6-5 win over the Falcons. Meyer took the loss, as she now sits at 2-2 on the season. Sophomore Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) got the start for CUW and lasted 2.1 innings.

No Falcons recorded multiple hits in game one, but Robison did have another two-RBI performance. Seven different players had hits, including freshmen Alexis Holsten (Oshkosh, Wis.) and Marissa Hahn (Northville, Mich.) from the top of the CUW order.

The Falcons will return to action tomorrow when they take on MIT and Keene St. The first pitch of the MIT game is set for 10:00 a.m. CDT, while the Keene St. game is scheduled to begin at noon.
