Softball defeats Grove City, falls to UW-Whitewater

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin softball team split a pair of games on their second day in Florida, defeating Grove City College 13-1 before falling to UW-Whitewater 7-2 in the second contest.

In the win over Grove City the Falcons recorded 13 hits en route to the 12-run victory. Four CUW players finished with two hits apiece as senior Cara Landherr (Waukesha, Wis.), and juniors Mariah Giesseman (Strugeon Bay, Wis.), Stephanie Kramer (Fond du Lac, Wis.), and Alyssa Robison (Roselle, Ill.) all finished with two hits.

Freshman Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) earned the victory for CUW, tossing all five innings. Perkins struck out four batters compared to just one walk and allowed zero earned runs in the win. Final statistics for the win over Grove City have not yet been provided.

The second game saw UW-Whitewater defeat CUW 7-2. The score was tied at 1-1 before the Warhawks scored three in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 advantage. CUW responded with one in the bottom of the frame but UWW would add one run each in innings five through seven to take the 7-2 victory.

Kramer continued her strong performance at the plate in game two as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Robison added a double of her own and finished with one RBI, while sophomore Sara Skarda (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) added an RBI.

Junior Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) took the loss in the circle against the Warhawks as she threw 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs.

CUW returns to action tomorrow when they take on Kalamazoo College and Elmhurst College. The Falcons will play Kalamazoo at 9 a.m. EDT and follow that with a game against Elmhurst at 11 a.m.
