Softball rolls to a pair of wins over Maranatha Baptist Bible

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team got back on the winning track Monday as it swept Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader Monday at the CUW Softball Field. The Falcons won both games in five innings, winning game one 10-0 and the second game 14-1.

The Falcons scored all 10 runs in the first three innings in game one, including jumping on the board with three in the top of the first. CUW was the visiting team on the scoreboard because the game was originally scheduled to take place at Maranatha.

CUW tallied four more runs in the second inning and plated three again in the third, cruising to a 10-0 game one win. Senior Jannelle Schroder (Colgate, Wis.) and junior Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) each had two hits to pace the Falcons offense in game one.

Junior pitcher Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) gained her seventh win of the season as she threw four innings and struck out seven batters, while allowing just two hits. Freshman Alyssa Wolf (Oconomowoc, Wis.) struck out the side in the fifth to close out the victory for CUW.

Game two was all Falcons again, beginning with a five-run second inning. Junior Stephanie Kramer (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had a bases clearing triple in the second inning to help CUW build the 5-0 lead. The Falcons added three in the third and two in the fourth, including a home run off the bat of Kramer to take a 10-1 lead after four innings. The Falcons then added on four more in the top of the fifth, easily winning game two 14-1.

Kramer finished the game with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while senior Abbie Goetsch (Grayslake, Ill.) and sophomore Jessica Liszka (Lindenhurst, Ill.) each added three hits. Freshman Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) pitched four innings to earn the win, striking out five and allowing three hits, while Wolf finished the game in the fifth inning.

CUW (15-13, 9-5 NAC) will remain at home tomorrow when they host Rockford College in a NAC doubleheader. First pitch between the Falcons and Regents is scheduled for 3 p.m.
