Landherr belts two home runs, Softball sweeps Rockford

MEQUON, Wis. – For the second straight day the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team had little trouble in rolling to a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader sweep, as it took two from Rockford College Tuesday at the CUW Softball Field. CUW won both games in five innings via the eight-run rule, taking game one 10-1 and game two 14-0.

In the opener senior Cara Landherr (Waukesha, Wis.) had a huge game at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs, while also scoring three times. Landherr hit a grand slam in the second inning and added a two-run blast in the fourth.

While Landherr was zoned in at the plate, junior pitcher Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) was in control in the circle as she picked up her eighth win of the season. Schuh pitched all five innings and struck out nine, while allowing just four hits.

Rockford (3-21, 1-11 NAC) was led by Jossilyn Jones in the opener as the leadoff hitter recorded two hits. The 1-4 hitters for CUW scored a combined eight runs in game one, with senior Jannelle Schroder (Colgate, Wis.) and junior Stephanie Kramer (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each scoring twice.

The second game saw the Falcons score at least three runs in each of the four innings they batted, including four in each of the first two frames. Landherr continued her hot hitting with a 2-for-4, three-RBI performance, while Kramer was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Junior Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) also had a strong game going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a home run.

Freshman Melissa Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) earned the win for CUW as she pitched four innings and allowed two hits, while striking out six. Freshman Alyssa Wolf (Oconomowoc, Wis.) pitched the final inning for the Falcons.

By plating double-digit runs in each of Tuesday afternoons games the Falcons have now scored 10 or more runs in eight of their past 11 games, including four straight.

CUW (17-13, 11-5 NAC) will look to continue its winning ways Thursday when they host Edgewood College in a conference twinbill. First pitch between the Falcons and Eagles is set for 4 p.m. at the CUW Softball Field.
