Men’s Soccer Frustrates Finlandia in the Season Opener

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Falcons opened the season with a 4-1 victory in Michigan on Wednesday afternoon at Finlandia.

Junior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) scored the first goal of the season off a corner kick and an assist to freshman Walter Bernal (Sheboygan, Wis.).

Bernal then scored his first collegiate goal five minutes later with a goal in the 31st minute. Junior Angel Uriostegui added the assist.

Junior Gilberto Gomez (Zion, Ill.) caged the Lions with two goals to open the second half, with Nick Hummel earning an assist on the first of the two goals.

Finlandia found the back of the net in the 76th minute to break up the shutout.

CUW held a 23-4 advantage in shots on Wednesday. Senior Spencer Standarski (Waukesha, Wis.) led all players with five shots.

Junior Mattson Wick (New Berlin, Wis.) earned the victory in the net.

The Falcons return to play on Sunday at Beloit.
