Men’s Soccer Stays Alive with Victory

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's soccer team lived to see another day with a 5-0 victory over Lakeland on Wednesday afternoon. The senior day victory sends CUW to 9-7-1 and to 7-4-1 in NACC play and clinches a spot in the NACC Tournament.

It was all Falcons all day.  This 5-0 game saw the winning goal come in the 12th minute off of a feed from senior Owen Johnson (Seneca, Ill.) to a waiting Ivan Cuellar, a junior from Milwaukee, Wis., just out of the reach of the keeper. 

The first half saw two more goals.  The first was in the 21st minute from junior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) off an assist from Cuellar.  The third Falcon goal was scored by senior Spencer Standarski (Waukesha, Wis.) in the 39th minute off of a quick feed from junior Miguel Garcia (Batavia, Ill). 

The Falcons would come out of the halftime hot scoring in just eight minutes with a goal from Joshua Shull, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind.) off the foot of Nick Hummel.

Senior Jacob Schmidt (Wautoma, Wis.) added the fifth goal of the game for the Falcons scoring the first goal of his career in the last regular-season game of his career off of a rebounded shot by freshman Remy Stafford (Chicago, Ill.).

The Falcons led the Muskies in both shots as well as shots on goal with 17 shots and 10 of them on goal to the Muskies 12 shots and two on goal.

The Falcons claimed the 5th seed in the NACC tournament after today's win and will take on no. 4 MSOE at MSOE on Saturday.
