Men’s Soccer Cruises Past Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The CUW men's soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season and third in conference play on Saturday afternoon, scoring three goals in the first 24 minutes of its contest against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.

The Falcons entered the match seeking to win their first game since September 23, having gone 0-3-2 in the five-game span. On the other side of the field, the Cougars were in search of not only their first win of the season, but their first victory over the Falcons in program history.

CUW jumped out of the gate hot, scoring twice in the game's first six-and-a-half minutes. Freshman Vladimir Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) notched his fourth goal of the season off of a head-butt pass from senior Miguel Garcia (Batavia, Ill.) . Campos would enter his name on the scoresheet again just three minutes later, assisting on a goal by sophomore Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Senior Ivan Cueller (Milwaukee, Wis.) would pick up a goal of his own in the 24th minute, his fourth of the season. The outburst marked Concordia's quickest three goals to start a game since an October 2019 contest against Lakeland.

Cueller's goal marked the end of the scoring on the day, but certainly not the end of the action. The Falcons would register 22 more shot attempts over the course of the game, but the Cougars defense stood tall. Goalies Roberto Romero and Joseph Perez would combine for 10 saves.

Not to be outdone, the Falcons defense made it difficult for the Cougars to even put pressure on sophomore goalie Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.), who only saw one shot in the game.

CUW will be back in action on Monday, October 16, set to take on the 3-8-2 Elmhurst Bluejays.
