Falcons Sprint Past Scarlet Hawks

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW baseball team competed in the final home doubleheader of the 2022 regular season on Friday afternoon. The Blue and White snagged a pair of victories with scores of 3-2 in game one and 12-2 in seven innings in game two.

Game one started with a Scarlet Hawk RBI single up the middle.

The Falcons responded with three unanswered runs. Senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) doubled down the left-field line in the bottom of the sixth inning to score sophomore Jack Owens (Chicago, Ill.).

Jack Owens hit a sacrifice fly to left field to start the seventh inning with junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) crossing the plate. Senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) singled to second base to score sophomore Brooks Kalscheur (Middleton, Wis.).

The Scarlet Hawks scored one more in the top of the eighth but fell short of the comeback.

The Falcons didn't waste any time in game two with nine runs in the first three innings.

Senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) doubled down the left-field line in the first inning to score Haakenson and senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.).

The second inning saw four runs cross the plate after Tillmon reached on a throwing error that scored Owens and senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.). Tillmon and Hahn crossed the plate off the bat of Beers with a single up the middle.

Owens scored Aguirre on a single to left field and Hahn grounded out for Fike to cross the plate in the bottom f the third. Tillmon also singled through the left side and Jack Owens scored on a throwing error.

The top of the seventh saw the Scarlet Hawks score two runs, but the Falcons slammed the door on any thoughts of a comeback with a three-spot in the bottom of the inning to end the game with the ten-run rule in effect.

Senior Tristen Largent (Verona, Wis.) drove a sacrifice fly out to the centerfielder to score Tillmon. 

Beers scored on a throwing error from the catcher and Haakenson scored on a wild pitch to end the game 12-2.

Senior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) was mowing down Scarlet Hawks in his seven-inning appearance with seven strikeouts and only three hits. Green improved to 5-2 after the win today.

The Falcons celebrated the graduating seniors of the 2022 class after game two. Seniors Kyle Kosobucki, Beau Wills (Coal City, Ill.), Casey Sauter (South Beloit, Ill.), Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.), and Zack Swift (Longwood, Fla.) were recognized for their contributions to the program.

The Falcons return to action at Aurora on Saturday.
