Carroll Rallies to Spoil Opening Day

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The CUW baseball team opened the 2022 season on Tuesday afternoon at Carroll. The Pioneers rallied late to improve to 2-2 on the season and spoil opening day for the Falcons.

The Orange and Blue struck first on Tuesday with three runs in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, junior Josh Bentley (Lockport, Ill.) singled up the middle to score senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) and senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.).

Senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) tied the game in the fifth inning on a double down the right-field line to send in senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.).

Senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead in the sixth inning when he crossed Tristan Largent across home plate.

Beers struck again with a home run in the eighth inning.

The Pioneers retook the lead with nine runs in the eighth inning.

Sam Beers was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning with the bases loaded to score Drew Johnson.

Junior Tyler Drezek (West Allis, Wis.) had six strikeouts in the start and sophomore Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) had three strikeouts in relief.

CUW was led by Johannes Haakenson, Tristan Largent and Josh Bentley with two hits.

The Falcons look to bounce back in the home opener on Wednesday against Carroll.
