Baseball Brings Out the Brooms

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons snapped their six-game losing streak on Monday with a pair of victories over Wisconsin Lutheran. The Blue and White improve to 8-10 and to 2-2 in the NACC with the 8-7 and 10-0 victories over Wisconsin Lutheran.

The Warriors threw the first punch on Monday with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) leveled the game in the third when he dropped a single into right field to send in senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) and senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.).

In the fourth inning, Johannes Haakenson blasted a triple to centerfield that scored senior Brandon Niedfeldt (Roscoe, Ill.).

The Green and White regained the lead in the sixth inning with a two-run double.

The Falcons fought back in the bottom half of the sixth inning with three runs.

Senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Sean Tillmon.

Senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) broke the tie with a single through the left side of the infield to score Johannes Haakenson and Brandon Niedfeldt.

The Warrior cut the deficit to 6-5 with a run in the seventh inning.

Sam Beers struck again in the seventh inning with another single through the left side of the infield that crossed junior Josh Bentley (Lockport, Ill.) across home plate.

Sophomore Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) had a solid start and struck out four batters.

The Green and White tacked on two runs on the bullpen in the eighth inning to tie the game.

Josh Bentley proved to be the game-one hero with a bases-loaded single to right field that scored Drew Johnson to give the Falcons the victory in the bottom of the ninth inning at 8-7.

Senior Zach Lutz (Hartford, Wis.) earned the victory with one strikeout and no hits in an inning of work.

The Falcons landed 15 hits in game one. Sam Beers secured a four-hit performance. He also added three RBI and a walk.

The birds cruised in game two to a seven-inning victory.

Johannes Haakenson started the scoring in the second inning with a triple into the gap in left-center field that landed Will Sommers on home plate.

The Falcons blew open the game with three more runs in the fourth inning.

Sean Tillmon started the spree with a laser down the left-field line to score freshman Will Sommers (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Josh Bentley.

Sam Beers knocked the ball into deep right field to score junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) on a sacrifice fly.

The birds blitzed WLC with four more runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) scored on a wild pitch.

Cole Aguirre then singled to right field to add Josh Bentley to the scoreboard.

Johannes Haakenson scored on an error and Sam Beers found the hole in the left side of the infield again to score Tillmon.

Josh Bentley ended the second game with a single down the left-field line to trigger the mercy rule when Sam Beers and Sean Tillmon scored.

Senior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) threw the complete game on the mound and earned the victory without giving up a run or walk and four strikeouts.

Josh Bentley led the game with four of the 13 CUW hits in game two.

The Falcons will waste no time in getting back to action when they host the Pointers of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Pointers are currently ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division III.
