Falcons Split with Stars

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The CUW baseball team headed south to battle the Dominican Stars on Saturday. The Falcons and the stars split the series with the first matchup going the route of the Stars with a 1-7 final.

The Falcons struck first in game one with a sacrifice fly from senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) that saw senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) cross the plate.

This was the lone Falcon run.

The Stars went on to tie it up in the bottom of the sixth inning, score five runs in the seventh, and score another in the eighth to take game one quickly and decisively.  

Game two went the route of the Falcons with a 9-1 finish.  

Senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) started game two with a bang in the top of the first inning. 

With a single to right field, Johnson batted in senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.).

Johnson crossed the plate later after senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) reached on an error.

The third inning saw a trio of Falcon runs score with junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) crossing the plate first after a triple from senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.). 

Fike crossed the plate later after a single to left field off the bat of Tillmon. Hahn and Tillmon crossed the plate with a double from Beers which pushed the Falcon lead out to six at 6-0.  

The top of the fifth inning saw another Falcon run with senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) crossing the plate after a groundout by Kyle Kosobucki.

In the top of the sixth inning, Johnson singled up the middle to drive in Fike once again and take the 8-0 lead.

The Stars scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

The Falcon capped off their scoring in the top of the seventh when Tillmon was walked which drove in Kosobucki.

Sophomore Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) struck out seven of his 20 batters faced in his five innings.

The Falcons head to Carthage on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with the Firebirds.
